I don’t know about you, but most people I know grew up with a strong work ethic and are very proud of it.
Work is a good thing if we use it properly.
Work is meant to be a tool to serve us by helping us create the resources that support us and the life we want.
Work is a vehicle to help us enjoy our lives.
And yet we often become enslaved to work and end up serving it rather than it serving us.
Why do we do this?
We do this when our WORK ethic becomes a WORTH ethic.
Are you busy, stressed, overwhelmed, exhausted, and unfulfilled?
That usually indicates that your work ethic has become a worth ethic.
A work ethic drives us to work to support our lives.
It should look like this:
I want to work because it provides the life I want for my family and me.
You feel light, thankful, and motivated.
Then you go to work, do a great job, and enjoy your day.
The worth ethic drives us to work to support our worth.
It looks like this:
I have to work to prove my worth and feel good about myself.
You feel stressed, overwhelmed, and exhausted.
You tend to overwork or underwork (procrastination, anyone?) and do not enjoy either.
So, when you are working, you feel bad, and when you aren’t working, you feel bad.
If this is you, you are not alone.
The worth ethic has led us to create a culture of hustle.
Everyone is sooo busy.
We wear It as a badge of honor. It makes us feel important.
And it’s making us miserable.
We believe that if we work hard now, someday we will arrive and be able to rest.
The trouble with that is, while we are working hard, rushing, forcing, and pushing through, we are training our brain how to think, and so when we decide it’s finally time to rest and enjoy the fruits of our labor, our brain won’t know how.
This is why Retirement or job loss often brings about depression and sometimes death.
Are you enjoying your work life? Your home life?
Do you always feel behind? Under a pile? Is your to-do list never-ending?
It might be because you are trying to create a feeling of worthiness with your work.
What if you didn’t have to wait until you have “arrived” (whatever that means) to love your life?
What if you could love it all right now?
What if you could feel peace, calm, and joy every day?
What if it was all possible by simply changing your mind?
When we shift from working FOR worthiness to working FROM worthiness, it changes everything.
Take some time to think about and create awareness around this.
It’s important.
You don’t have to allow life to happen to you.
You are creating your experience whether you are aware of it or not.
Awarenesss is where all your power is.
