Overwhelm is a common emotion during the holiday season and for some of us it’s common throughout the year.
Overwhelm is an emotion that is created by thinking thoughts like,
I have to...
I don’t know how...
I don’t have enough...time, money, energy...
When you think thoughts like this, your brain sends chemicals into your body creating a vibration that we call overwhelm.
It doesn’t feel good.
And it’s not supposed to.
The purpose of overwhelm is to slow you down, keep you stuck, stop you.
Your brain thinks it’s helping you, protecting you, saving you.
The trick is to realize what is really causing the overwhelm.
We tend to believe that our circumstances are causing the emotion.
The holidays make me feel overwhelmed.
The shopping, the cooking, the cleaning, the decorating, the travel, the family creates overwhelm.
How do I know?
Because I used to live in a constant state of overwhelm, and now I don’t.
The shopping, the cooking, the cleaning, the decorating, the travel, the family are all still there.
What changed was how I decided to think about all those circumstances.
Everything we create in life starts with a decision.
A decision is simply a thought that we are committed to.
What do you want to be committed to this month?
What do you want to create?
How do you want to feel?
What do you want to do?
You get to decide.
One of the best ways to overcome overwhelm is to stop thinking I have to and remember why you want to.
Stop letting life happen to you. Be intentional. Create the life you want.
