Why do we look forward to the Holidays?
I think one of the reasons is connection.
We connect through tradition and ritual.
We connect by giving and receiving gifts, sending cards, sharing special meals, and gathering together.
We connect with family and close friends but also with neighbors, co-workers, and long-distance friends.
We even connect with strangers through smiles, seasons greetings, opening doors, and random acts of kindness.
Our connection communicates: I see you, I care about you, I’m thinking of you, and you are special to me.
We can communicate with kindness, generosity, and time.
So, let’s be intentional with our thoughts, feelings, and actions this season.
Let’s focus on the why of our actions, not just the how.
Connection is meaningful and enjoyable, but it also creates a sense of emotional safety, which is essential in managing the busyness of our lives.
Take some time to connect with yourself every day.
It creates peace, calm, and joy.
When you slow down and connect, ask yourself:
What do you want the holidays to represent for you?
What do you want to experience?
Who do you want to be?
I recently read an article from a website that I follow called Positive News.
I try to consume as much good news as I can because what we think about, we bring about.
The article is titled Luxuriate in the Season: Five Reasons to Enjoy a Long Festive Period.
I love that title and I love the word luxuriate.
I never thought to equate luxuriating with the holidays!
I often find myself thinking, just get through.
Luxuriating will be my intention this year.
I hope you can find the time to read this uplifting article, slow down, be intentional about the season, and have a luxurious week.
