In a world of uncertainty, where is your power?

Uncertainty is a thing.

Covid-19, social injustice, political division, the economy...

We are in a time of uncertainty and our brains like to tell us, we shouldn’t be. This shouldn’t be happening. Something has gone terribly wrong.

Take a minute. Close your eyes and think the thought, this shouldn’t be happening.

How does that feel in your body?

Tight or expansive?

Tense or loose?

Closed or open?

When I feel tight, tense, closed, it is a signal to my brain to go into fight or flight - survival mode - which leads me to feel fearful, guarded and defensive.

But what if nothing has gone wrong? What if this was always going to happen? What if, in some mysterious way this is all happening FOR us?

Hmmm....

Now, I feel curious, engaged, open to possibility, creative.

Do you see the power of our thoughts?

Covid-19, social injustice, political division or the economy do not create our fear, anxiety or frustration.

Our thoughts about them do.

Uncertainty is a thing. It always has been and it always will be. We cannot predict the future.

There are, however a few things in life we can be certain of. We can always be certain of who we are and how we want to show up in a world of uncertainty.

We feel terrible when we try to control what is impossible to control but when we move into acceptance first, then we can decide from a loving, calm place how we want to respond. That is truly the only thing we can control.

And it is empowering.

I’ve been through some pretty tough stuff in my life and I bet you have too. How I chose to respond to those tough times taught me a lot about myself.

What do you know, for sure, about yourself, that you can be certain of?

I am certain that I have everything I need inside of me to handle whatever comes my way.

I am certain that I am going to be okay even if I’m not.

I am certain that I am doing the best that I know and when I know better I WILL do better and so will most people.

How about you? What are you certain of?

I would love to know. Reach out.
