How are those 2020 goals going?

Are you feeling any resistance?


I know I am.


And if YOU are, I want you to know that nothing has gone wrong. Your brain is doing exactly what it is supposed to do.



A goal by definition is an idea of the FUTURE or desired result that a person envisions, plans and commits to achieve.


Guess what? 


Our brains are designed to think in the past. It is one way that they protect us and keep us alive.

Remember when you touched that hot stove and it really hurt? Don’t do that again.


Remember when you tried to eat healthy and exercise and you didn’t stick to it. You felt bad about yourself. Don’t do that again.

Remember when you said you were going to get organized, build your business, learn to play guitar, start dating... you get the idea.


 

And how do we usually respond to brains that are focused on the past and therefore NATURALLY resist goals?


Often we try to force them by using willpower. However, willpower requires immense amounts of energy that eventually runs out, leaves us exhausted and discouraged and often with the result of giving up on our goal.

I have a better idea. 


Instead of resistance and force ...

How about love and understanding?

Ask yourself, 

WHY am I not doing what I really WANT to do?

What am I THINKING and how do those thoughts make me FEEL?

My guess is some of those thoughts and feelings are pretty negative. And negative thoughts and feelings produce negative actions and results.


 

Let’s work WITH our brain instead of against it.

It looks like this:


Listen to its resistance. What are the reasons why, “I don’t wanna.”

Hear it, feel it and then comfort it.

Convince it that “you do wanna.”

Make a list of 10 reasons why you WANT to accomplish your goal - reasons that make you FEEL amazing. 


Then practice thinking the thoughts on that list and more importantly practice FEELING the feelings that those thoughts produce. 


Those good feelings will convince your brain that it wants to accomplish your goal and it will begin to work for you instead of against you.


Feelings are so important.

Because when you feel better you do better!
