Over the Hill
Remember when we used to think that turning 40 was over the hill?
And then we turned forty.
I don’t know about you, but at forty, I was just getting started.
I was waking up.
I was starting to get to know myself.
I was beginning to apply the wisdom that I accrued during those first forty years and start living the life I wanted instead of what I thought others expected.
My husband turned 60 this month.
To know him is to love him.
He is the most generous, intelligent, kind, funny, laid back person I know.
He is also strong, dependable, and oh, so logical.
He always sees the good in others.
I treasure that about him and want to be more like that.
He has taught me so much about living in abundance and loving what is.
I and many others have adopted his favorite phrase, “Everything always works out for me.”
That one thought creates his reality.
I’ve watched it. It works.
Which makes me think of a new meaning for over the hill.
We spend a lot of our lives trudging uphill.
Trying to figure out who we are and how we want to live.
Trying to figure out how to get there from the energy of forcing, pushing, striving.
We spend a lot of our lives feeling confused, stressed, overwhelmed, exhausted.
But when I look at my husband, I see a man who gives new meaning to over the hill.
It’s the ease of coming down.
Not from an energy of giving up or even letting up but from the energy of momentum.
The momentum that comes from calm and certainty.
The momentum that comes from knowing who you are, what you want, and why and loving all your reasons.
The momentum that comes from trusting that everything always works out and enjoying the journey.
How high is your hill?
Are you still climbing? Are you tired?
What if it didn’t have to be hard?
I invite you to come over to our side of the hill.
The landscape is beautiful, abundant, peaceful.
Always new because we are always moving, never stuck.
A place where you can grow instead of climb. You can achieve instead of strive.
A place where you can truly live an abundant life from a place of peace and ease.
I can teach you.
