How to Stay Young

What do you want?

I mean, really want.

It can be a difficult question to answer.

We know exactly what we want when we're kids because we’re future-focused.

We can’t wait to go to school, drive a car, get a job, graduate, get a better job, get married, buy a house, have a family, take the family on vacation, etc.

Around middle age, the wants slow down.

Now, we’re overwhelmed with maintaining all the wants we’ve created.

It can feel heavy and hard, and we forget the joy and ease of wanting.

The feelings of joy and ease are what override the challenges of accomplishment.

The feelings of heavy and hard keep us stuck and stagnant and convince us we’re content with our life as it is.

But are you?

What if you could have more?

What if it didn’t have to be difficult or take too much time, money, or energy?

It might feel hard at first, but once you get going, it’s hard to stop.

What are you interested in?

What do you want to learn?

Where do you want to go?

What kind of relationships do you want?

What kind of things do you want?

What do you want to contribute to the world?

How do you want to feel?

Why?

Be very specific.

Remember who you are.

Don’t worry about the how.

Just brainstorm. Just dream.

Let your brain know there is much more available.

Open up to possibility.

This exercise should be fun and feel good.

No judgment allowed.

Notice if your brain is telling you you shouldn’t want it, or you should be content with what you have, or all the reasons why it isn’t possible.

That’s okay; nothing has gone wrong.

It’s just your brain trying to protect you.

We “want” naturally as children, but as we grow older, we forget how to dream.

Dreaming helps your brain get into a safe and creative space.

Safety and creativity help you figure out the next step.

The first step is knowing what you want and why.

The second step is feeling good about it.

Good like, hopeful, inspired, motivated.

The third step is taking small actions toward your desire.

Dreaming keeps us moving forward.

Dreaming keeps us active, engaged, and energized.

Dreaming keeps us young.

Have an amazing week.
